Changelog

Releases are tagged vYYMMDD.

First release of Vision: a self-hosted video management system for Cesbo Alta.

Requirements and known issues

  • Recording per stream needs Alta 261026 or newer. Older Alta records every stream of a camera.
  • Alta 261027: H.265 cameras show no timeline thumbnails (playback works). A camera that sends its H.264 parameters only in the RTSP SDP gets no preview files, and its timeline shows no recording.
  • Alta 261026: a stream whose recording was stopped keeps its old segments past retention until it records again.

License

  • Vision runs under a Cesbo license. A fresh install is locked until an administrator activates it in Settings → License. See Licensing.
  • vision status and vision doctor report the license; vision backup carries license.txt.

Live View

  • Layouts from 1×1 to 4×4, plus 1+5 and 1+7 with one large hotspot cell.
  • Saved views with keys 1–9, stored per user on the server; Auto cycles pages; Full screen; Edit mode with drag and drop.
  • One Source select: all cameras, a group, a map, or a custom selection.
  • Click a tile to focus, double-click to open. A collapsible footer shows Loss and Freezes.
  • WebRTC with HLS fallback. Streams start only on the page you stop on and are released in a background tab.
  • An unreachable Alta server shows as one amber server problem instead of a wall of red tiles.

Cameras

  • Main and Sub streams. Dense walls play the light Sub, large views play Main; Record chooses Main, Sub, or Both. See Main and Sub streams.
  • Add Camera: discovery scan, Fetch from camera fills both streams from ONVIF, Probe checks both, and Add & next keeps the scan and credentials for the next camera.
  • Find Sub streams — on the camera page, or for many cameras from the list’s Actions menu.
  • Camera list: search by IP, filter by server and group, sort across all pages, Add to group… in bulk, a REC switch, an Archive column, and filters kept in the URL.
  • Camera page: stream status, ONVIF settings, a Device card, Swap Main and Sub, PTZ with presets read from the camera, and recent events that open the archive or create a clip.
  • An offline camera explains itself — when Probe passes but Alta cannot pull the stream, the page says so and offers Switch to TCP.

Archive and investigation

  • DVR-style timeline with hover thumbnails, panning, and a green playhead.
  • Events and Clips pages; create a clip from an event, with the start at the event timestamp.
  • Config drift lists cameras that differ from Alta and fixes them in one click.

Alerts

  • Rule-based alerts for camera and server health, delivered in-app, by email, web push, Telegram, and webhook.
  • A server-wide camera drop is one bell row and one notification, not one per camera.

Install & CLI

  • One-line installer: curl -fsSL https://vision.cesbo.com/install.sh | sh.
  • vision wraps the service (status, restart, logs), diagnostics (doctor), and backup / restore. See the CLI Reference.
  • vision install writes http.secure_cookies: false, so a fresh plain-HTTP install keeps you signed in. Set it to true once HTTPS is in front.
  • vision status says Not ready: no Alta server yet until the first server is added.

Security

  • Role-based access with per-group operator and viewer roles, invitations, and an audit log.
  • Viewers do not see camera connection details (RTSP/ONVIF port, path, user).
  • Request bodies and camera connection strings are size-capped; camera passwords never reach the logs.
